Gottcha. No actually, I found what appears to be a good buy on the Lie-Nielsen 102 Low Angle Block Plane. It is delivered for $75. It measures 5 1/4 x 1 1/4 and should be good for end grain work on neck sets. I went ahead and bought one and thought I'd just pass it along. The rest of the site is worth checking out as well.

Don...Nice to see you didn't put pieces of electrician's tape all over it!

I recently bought one of these as well...(the Bronze model). You're gonna love it!

That's the same price Woodcraft has them at, so you can avoid shipping altogether if you've got one close by.

Just one question: is bronze simply a better metal than steel for planes? Is there a particular reason those models are pricier?

I could be wrong, but perhaps bronze has more mass than iron? Not sure, but that would make some sense. I have the bronze one, and it's quite a nice little plane.

I have a stanley low angled plane. A great little tool. While I do admit I am not much at using them anymore I have quite a plane collection.
A good plane well sharpened makes music when used. I may have to get them out and sharpen them up.

Cool Don. Thanks for the link, they seem to have good prices. Sometimes if I am really busy, I would rather order the item on line and have it delivered. Saves on gas money too!

I too Thank You for the link...I also have the Bronze model...I think I paid something like $125 for it? don't remember. But at this price ( and delivered) I could have almost bought two. I guess I'll have to buy one just because it's such a good deal...you guys are going to put me in the poor house with all these great finds! Hey Thanks! p.s. I asked them to ship it in a plain box and put black electricians tape on the sensitive area's

I've got one of the L-N bronze low-angles, too. It is nice, but I'd suggest thinking twice before buying a bronze plane. Bronze is a much softer metal than iron. It's easily scratched, and, when dropped, easily dented (I don't think you'll have to ask how I know that!). Bronze looks and feels much nicer than iron, though, and the L-N is a smooth operating tool.
